The Senior Protection & Control Engineer will lead the technical delivery and design of HV and EHV protection and control systems for complex substation, renewables and grid connection projects. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical leadership to the engineering team, setting protection philosophies, reviewing design outputs and ensuring compliance with Grid Code, ENA G99, DNO and TSO requirements. They will act as a technical authority across projects, resolving engineering challenges, coordinating multi-disciplinary interfaces and ensuring designs are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. This is a senior role with a strong focus on mentoring junior engineers, embedding CDM 2015 principles and promoting safety and sustainability by design.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience designing HV and EHV protection and control systems across 11kV to 132kV networks, with exposure to 400kV projects highly desirable.
  • Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a focus on power systems, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Grid Code, ENA G99, DNO/TSO requirements, British and international standards, and protection system compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead or technically manage specialist electrical design teams, including mentoring junior engineers and overseeing quality assurance processes.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, including the designer’s role, safety by design principles and the production of robust technical documentation, drawings and calculations.
