About the role:

We are seeking an experienced part time HR Manager to join Mars The Label. As the business continues to scale, we are looking for an experienced HR Manager to establish and lead our HR function from the ground up.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic HR professional who enjoys building functions and processes, working closely with Founder, Directors and leadership, and creating a best in class people infrastructure needed to support a fast growing and people focused fashion business.

You will establish the foundations of our people function, putting the right policies, processes and practices in place while also being a highly visible and approachable point of contact for our team.

Working closely with the Founder and management team, you will provide expert guidance across the full employee function including recruitment and onboarding through to performance, career development and employee relations. You will be responsible for ensuring the business has appropriate HR practices, policies and processes in place and remains compliant as we continue to grow.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish the HR function and create scalable processes, policies and systems from the ground up.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive HR framework appropriate for a growing people focused fashion business.
  • Introduce clear and legally compliant HR policies, procedures and employee documentation.
  • Establish consistent processes across recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance, absence and development.
  • Ensure employee records and HR documentation are accurate, organised and appropriately managed including contracts, policies, processes and employee documentation are appropriately maintained.
  • Introduce HR systems and tools that improve efficiency as the business grows.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of and ensure compliance with UK employment law and HR best practice whilst keeping the Founder, Directors and Senior Leadership team informed of relevant changes to employment legislation.
  • Provide support and practical advice to Founders and managers on employment queries and issues.
  • Manage disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and other employee relations matters fairly and consistently.
  • Work with external HR, employment law or legal advisers where specialist support is required.
  • Own the end to end recruitment process across the business. Work with hiring managers to define roles, responsibilities and talent requirements.
  • Develop job descriptions and effective recruitment processes.
  • Manage candidate sourcing, interviews, offers and pre employment processes and build a strong and consistent onboarding experience.
  • Working closely with the Founder and Directors to develop Mars The Label employer proposition as the business grows to be one of the best in the UK.
  • Act as the primary HR contact for employees and managers, provide trusted, confidential and commercially appropriate HR advice.
  • Manage employee relations queries and issues from initial concern through to resolution.
  • Help define and embed a strong people culture aligned with the Mars The Label brand and employment brand.
  • Develop initiatives that support staff engagement, wellbeing and retention.
  • Manage contracts, amendments, probation reviews, holiday, absence and other HR administration.
  • Work closely with Finance/payroll providers to ensure accurate payroll information.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive employee information.
  • Develop clear reporting and HR metrics for the leadership team.

About you:

  • Proven experience working as an HR Manager, HR Business Partner or similar senior HR role.
  • Strong, up to date knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Experience creating or improving HR policies, processes and systems.
  • Strong end to end recruitment experience.
  • Experience advising and working closely with Founders and Senior Leadership team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The confidence to challenge and advise when necessary with a fully approachable manner.
  • Strong judgement, discretion and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, practical and commercially minded approach.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Experience in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, fashion, retail, e-commerce or consumer environment would be highly advantageous.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent professional experience is desirable.
