General Description:

The Global Freight Manager is responsible for handling international freight across the business including shipments from China, Australia, Europe, UK and USA.

Working closely with the Global Supply Chain Team, this position manages all international air, sea and domestic freight in Europe. The Global Freight Manager manages expectations for the shift and contributes to a very successful and highly motivated and entrepreneurial team in improving the efficiency of our freight operations.

Reports to: Director of Global Operations

Compensation: £33,703.20 – £42,129.00 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Manages freight & logistics operations in a manufacturing environment
  • Ensures appropriate efficiencies to reduce delivery delays.
  • Ensures inventory is accurately received, labeled, stored, pulled, staged, and shipped for proper tracking and location identification for inventory control.
  • Ensures all commercial paperwork (commercial invoices, Export Declarations etc.) is maintained, and ensures the most cost-effective shipment of materials and equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of processes and procedures to align with the initiatives and goals set forth by the company.
  • Identifies and corrects problems and inefficiencies in process
  • Collects, evaluates, analyzes, and assesses freight & logistics data.
  • Oversees/coordinates global freight bookings (air, sea & road transport); receiving quotes, and planning shipments; consolidating containers as appropriate; coordinates arrangements for additional services such as inland transportation or storage as requested.
  • Oversees the receipt of orders and processes shipments from appropriate carriers; Monitors shipments to ensure delivery by promised deadlines.
  • Monitors inventory via an enterprise resource planning system (NetSuite)
  • Resolves delivery problems as escalated
  • Communicates regularly with Chinese suppliers to coordinate orders (Ready dates, volume, loading location, specific demands)
  • Oversees the preparation of all documentation needed for shipping including bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, certificates of origin, invoices, and international shipping documentation.
  • Maintains records of goods dispatched or received.
  • Notifies exporters, global business team, including production, procurement, and sourcing teams throughout the business of shipment status.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of regulations and laws affecting international transport of cargo.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify and address problems, meet deadlines, and stay within budget
  • Adaptability – Adapts easily to change, performs calmly under pressure, and works effectively in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong technical skills/aptitude: Proficiency in Microsoft suite of programs, extensive ERP System knowledge and experience required (NetSuite preferred).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
  • International/Global experience in logistics/freight management required
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and will be considered.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience or equivalent
  • Experience with NetSuite is highly preferred.
  • Dangerous Goods Certified

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
