We’re looking for a proactive

Health & Safety Manager to join our team at Portsmouth Dockyard team to support the delivery of high‑quality SHEQ standards across the business.

You’ll play a hands‑on role in keeping people safe, shaping best practice, and helping us maintain a culture where safety always comes first.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting the planning, implementation and monitoring of Health, Safety, Environment & Quality activities.
  • Carrying out risk assessments, site inspections and accident/incident investigations.
  • Recording and maintaining accurate SHEQ documentation.
  • Delivering induction training and internal SHEQ training sessions.
  • Conducting face‑fit testing and ensuring safe use of equipment.
  • Presenting safety information to employees and managers.
  • Liaising with customers, HSE and internal SHE teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with current legislation.
  • Assisting with audits, spot checks and yard checks.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Marine and MOD experience - essential.
  • Experience of assessing high risk activities - essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of confined space management - essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a natural ability to identify hazards.
  • Confidence in recommending practical risk‑reduction measures.
  • Ability to hold

Tech IOSH status – essential.

  • Additional qualifications such as ISO knowledge, PTLLS, Environmental Management or Internal Auditor – desirable.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and achieve SC Clearance.
