Here at Marlborough Highways we are seeking a dedicated Road Marking Supervisor to join our skilled Road Marking Division and lead teams on projects ranging from local roads to major highways. The Road Marking Supervisor will be based in the Brentwood area (with travel across London, Essex, and surrounding regions). As Road Marking Supervisor, you’ll oversee daily operations for our road marking teams, ensuring safe, accurate, and high-quality installation of permanent and temporary thermoplastic, MMA, and other markings. You’ll manage site activities, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and uphold our commitment to excellence, safety, and efficiency on highway maintenance contracts.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise road marking gangs on site, including allocation of tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring work meets specifications and drawings.
- Oversee the safe application of thermoplastic and cold-applied markings on roads, car parks, playgrounds, and highways.
- Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, Chapter 8 traffic management, and NHSS Sector 7 standards.
- Liaise with clients, local authorities, project managers, and other site teams to coordinate works and resolve issues.
- Manage materials, plant, and equipment; ensure correct usage and maintenance.
- Carry out quality checks, record keeping, and reporting on daily progress, materials used, and any incidents.
- Promote a positive safety culture and mentor team members, including operatives and trainees.
- Assist with planning upcoming works and contribute to continuous improvement.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven supervisory/chargehand experience in road marking highways works (thermoplastic/MMA application preferred).
- Strong knowledge of road marking techniques, materials, and industry standards.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Road Marking, Highways Maintenance, or similar Supervisor/Operative tickets under NHSS Sector 7 (Road Marking).
- CSCS card (Black/White card for supervisors).
- 12D/Chapter 8 Traffic Management certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working on live highways, understanding of traffic management setups, and ability to work nights/weekends when required.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to health & safety, quality, and delivering work to tight deadlines.
