The commercial function is a key function contributing to the effective delivery of the company business plan financial and operational objectives. The commercial team ensures that the financial position of the business is accurately reported and controlled effectively. A good working knowledge of the construction industry is required as is excellent numeracy, IT, and communication skills. Management of key contractual relationships at all levels is vital and individuals must represent business professionalism and ethical behaviours throughout.
Responsibilities:
- Estimate the cost of schemes, using Schedule of Rates and Bill of Quantities.
- Application for Payment.
- Change Control and Compensation Event.
- Hot Costing, Cost analysis.
- Monthly review, CVR, Forecast and Cashflow.
- Manage an Assistant QS and help them develop further their career.
- Day‑to‑day communication with Operational managers to update Estimates, Forecasts, Cash Plan, and so on.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
- Good understanding of resurfacing and road marking; previous experience with highways is preferable.
- Good understanding of Bill of Quantities and Schedule of Rates.
- Able to take off measures from drawings.
- Able to estimate the cost from the drawings using Schedule of Rates and Bill of Quantities.
- Good understanding of NEC, EWN and Compensation Event.
