We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprentices. This 18-month fully funded apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in highway repair and maintenance across various locations in East and North London. Successful candidates will learn to work with hand and power tools, operate pedestrian plant machinery, and perform both reactive and planned maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Excavate and reinstate highways, including removal of materials using hand or power tools.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on rural and urban roads.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and highway information.
- Operate powered tools and pedestrian plant machinery such as rollers, mixers, and compressors.
- Adhere to Marlborough Highways' standards, ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Participate in approximately 6 hours per week of off-the-job training, supported by in-house development.
- Complete an End Point Assessment to validate occupational competence.
Qualifications & Skills:
- GCSEs Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English (support provided if not achieved).
- Desirable but not essential: prior construction industry experience.
- Ability to produce accurate work and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of highway maintenance principles.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Commitment to professional development and safety.
