Here at Marlborough Highways we are looking for the perfect person to fill our newly created part time role, Employee Support and Wellbeing Advisor. This role will provide confidential and compassionate support to employees in matters relating to their personal lives. This includes guidance, signposting, and practical support around areas such as housing, financial pressures, bereavement, family challenges, stress, anxiety, and general life difficulties. The role exists to support the whole person — helping employees navigate personal challenges so they feel supported, valued, and able to thrive both personally and professionally. This position is distinct from HR and does not deal with workplace investigations, performance management, or disciplinary matters. The role will be part time, around 25 hours, however we are flexible and willing to work with the right candidate to determine exact amount of hours and the working pattern.
Responsibilities
- Provide confidential one-to-one support to employees experiencing personal challenges
- Offer guidance, active listening, and appropriate signposting to external services or professional support as well as working with employees to develop practical and manageable action plans
- Maintain appropriate records while ensuring strict confidentiality
- Recognise safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately where necessary
- Provide coaching and support to operational managers / line managers to build confidence and knowledge on how to support employee wellbeing.
Proactive Wellbeing Initiatives
- Develop and deliver initiatives that promote positive wellbeing across the organisation
- Organise awareness campaigns (e.g. financial wellbeing, mental health, family support resources)
- Create and share helpful resources, toolkits, and information guides
- Identify emerging themes or common challenges and recommend supportive initiatives
Collaboration & Boundaries
- Work closely with HR while maintaining clear boundaries between personal-life support and workplace matters
- Signpost employees to HR where issues relate to employment policies or workplace concerns
- Liaise with external partners, charities, or support services where appropriate
- Help embed a culture of openness, compassion, and emotional wellbeing
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience in support, advisory, wellbeing, pastoral care, or similar roles essential
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills
- Ability to build trust and handle sensitive matters with discretion
- Knowledge of wellbeing, mental health, financial hardship, or community support resources
- Calm, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach
- Ability to manage boundaries appropriately
