Role Purpose

The Business Development Executive (BDE) is responsible for originating, developing and managing relationships with UK financial advisers and intermediary firms to support the growth of Marlborough's assets under management (AUM). This role is designed as the first step into a front-line business development career for individuals with experience in sales support, adviser services or client-facing operational roles within asset management or financial services. The BDE will operate independently, building adviser relationships, delivering presentations, generating new business opportunities and supporting Marlborough's wider commercial objectives – while receiving guided support, coaching and structured development. This role is home based but please be aware this role will require extensive UK travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Relationship Management
    • Proactively identify, engage and build relationships with financial advisers across assigned regions.
    • Conduct introductory and follow-up meetings to position Marlborough's investment solutions and service offering.
    • Develop a structured approach to adviser coverage, including activity planning, lead-generation and relationship mapping.
    • Deliver clear, compliant and engaging presentations tailored to adviser needs.
    • Represent Marlborough at adviser events, roadshows and industry conferences.
  • Product & Proposition Expertise
    • Build and maintain strong working knowledge of Marlborough Multi-Asset Funds, MPS / Fund of Funds Range, Platform Services, ACD / Fund Services.
    • Understand market positioning, competitor offerings and the regulatory landscape.
    • Communicate features, benefits and differentiators effectively to adviser audiences.
  • Commercial Growth & AUM Development
    • Drive new business flows by identifying adviser needs, investment preferences and commercial opportunities.
    • Support the adoption of Marlborough solutions within adviser investment propositions.
    • Strengthen usage and deepen share-of-wallet with existing adviser relationships.
  • Marketing, Campaigns & Events
    • Collaborate with Marketing to support targeted campaigns and outreach activity.
    • Contribute to content development for presentations, brochures, webinars and adviser communications.
    • Assist with the planning and delivery of events, including adviser seminars and virtual briefings.
  • Insight, Reporting & CM Management
    • Maintain accurate and timely CRM records including meetings, interactions, pipeline and outcomes.
    • Capture and communicate adviser insights, market trends, opportunities and risks.
    • Provide regular activity, pipeline and performance reporting to the Commercial Director.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration
    • Work effectively with internal teams including Product, Marketing, Operations, Compliance and Platform functions.
    • Provide adviser feedback to support product enhancements and proposition development.
    • Participate in business projects, research tasks and strategic initiatives as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels within Marlborough as well as with clients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully promote investment solutions to financial adviser community.
  • Accurate with good attention to detail.
  • Able to plan and prioritise effort, execute effectively and regularly switch priorities.
  • Good PC skills.

  • Ability to understand and evaluate a financial adviser's practice.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable and able to engage with internal management and staff across the business.
  • Willing and able to network on behalf of Marlborough including representation at conference, industry forums and industry events.
