Schedule includes evenings and weekends, when necessary. From June through September, the work schedule will include weekend shifts to ensure adequate departmental coverage.
The Recreation Department Assistant Director plays a vital leadership role in assessing, planning, and managing a wide range of community-based recreational programs, special events, and city aquatic facilities. Working closely with the Recreation Director, this position oversees departmental policy implementation, budget preparation, and marketing efforts, while directly recruiting and supervising over 200 seasonal staff and volunteers. From coordinating lifeguard certifications and maintaining facility safety standards to engaging with residents and collaborating across municipal departments, the Assistant Director ensures the smooth execution of vibrant, safe, and high-quality recreational services for the entire community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Any equivalent combination of the education, training, certification, and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration or related field or equivalent, plus 3 to 5 years of related experience with at least 1 year in a municipal recreation setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
- Must possess a valid MA Driver’s License.
- Lifeguard Instructor
- CPR/Professional Rescuer
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- AED First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
