A well-established independent accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join its leadership team as part of its long-term succession planning strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior practice professional looking to take on a broad and influential role within a supportive, relationship-led firm. The successful candidate will work closely with the directors, manage a varied client portfolio, lead and develop staff, and help shape the future direction of the practice. The role offers genuine progression opportunities, including potential future equity participation for the right individual, although this is not an expectation.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of owner-managed business and personal tax clients
  • Acting as the main client contact and building long-term relationships
  • Reviewing accounts and tax work prepared by the team
  • Supporting directors on larger and more complex assignments
  • Managing workflow and overseeing the accounts team
  • Providing guidance, mentoring and technical support to staff at all levels
  • Developing trainee accountants and supporting structured training plans
  • Supporting recruitment activity and future team growth
  • Assisting with business development and networking opportunities
  • Helping implement improved systems, processes and digital working practices
  • Driving standardisation and efficiency across the practice

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong general practice experience within a UK accountancy firm
  • Experience managing client relationships independently
  • Previous staff management and review experience
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A collaborative and commercially minded approach
  • Experience with digital systems improvements and process development would be highly advantageous.
