Marks Sattin are delighted to be partnering with a highly successful and growing organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to join a complex, multi-entity business in a key leadership role, overseeing the delivery of payroll services across a large and diverse workforce.

Reporting into the Head of Payroll, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function, lead a team of payroll professionals whilst ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payrolls. This role combines operational leadership with hands-on technical expertise and offers the opportunity to contribute to business transformation, systems development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful delivery of multiple weekly and monthly payrolls across a complex organisational structure.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, statutory reporting requirements, and HMRC regulations.
  • Review and reconcile FPS submissions and payroll data.
  • Apply knowledge of IR35 legislation and support status determination processes.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Payroll Seniors and Advisors.
  • Build strong working relationships with HR, Finance, and operational stakeholders.
  • Drive process improvements, controls, and efficiencies across the payroll function.
  • Support payroll-related projects, acquisitions, integrations, and organisational change initiatives.
  • Provide hands-on support during key payroll periods and team absences.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced payroll leader with a strong technical background and a passion for delivering a high-quality payroll service. You will ideally possess:

  • Proven experience managing payroll operations across multiple entities or business units.
  • At least five years' experience leading and developing payroll teams.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC processes and statutory compliance.
  • Experience of IR35, salary sacrifice schemes and taxable benefits administration.
  • Previous involvement in acquisitions, TUPE transfers, or business integrations.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a meticulous approach to auditing and reconciliation.
  • Exposure to payroll and HR systems implementation projects.
  • CIPP Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum.
  • Experience with IRIS Cascade or similar payroll systems would be advantageous.
