About the Business
Marks Sattin are working with a growing SME based in York, operating in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. With ambitious plans for the future, they are looking to appoint their first experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and support the leadership team with clear, commercial financial insight.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finance function while playing a key role in shaping the financial strategy of the business. This is a broad role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with senior stakeholders and making a real impact in a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of the finance function, including month-end and year-end processes
- Preparation of management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow forecasts
- Financial reporting and analysis to support business decision-making
- Overseeing transactional finance (AP/AR/payroll)
- Managing statutory accounts, audits, and liaising with external accountants and advisors
- Ensuring strong financial controls, processes, and compliance
- Supporting commercial projects, growth initiatives, and process improvements
About You
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or qualified by experience
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior finance role within an SME
- Hands-on, pragmatic, and comfortable working across both strategic and operational finance
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills
- Commercially minded with excellent communication skills
- Experience in a growing or owner-managed business is highly desirable
