Join our team at M&S as a Shift Lead in our Food section, where you'll become a champion of our high-quality products, great value offers, and excellent customer service. We’re seeking passionate individuals who take pride in their knowledge of M&S Food products and are excited to share it with our customers. You’ll be a brand ambassador ready to recommend our newest Food products. Through remarkable service you’ll make sure our customers feel truly valued every time they shop with us.

You’ll utilise our digital tools, such as the Sparks App and our in-store devices, to enhance the customer experience and ensure they get the products they want when they need them. Being a team player is crucial. You’ll take responsibility for creating a great inclusive store environment, supporting and respecting your colleagues and the local community. Flexibility is also vital. You should be confident to work effectively across various areas of the store, adapting to the changing demands of the retail environment seamlessly.
Purpose of the Shift Lead role:
- To lead the fill operation, delivering a salesfloor that is ready to trade, taking operational responsibility for coordinating resources to serve, sell and fill, and to lead the floor in the absence of the Colleague Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordinate resources to deliver operational tasks during the fill operation and in the absence of the Colleague Manager.
- Lead the fill operation, coaching colleagues on One Best Way and driving productivity in readiness for store opening.
- Allocate resources effectively to deliver a quick payment experience.
- Enable all daily operational processes to be implemented efficiently across their area of the store, at the correct times.
- Coordinate the team to deliver a clean, safe and well-presented store.
- Play a part in creating a great team atmosphere that is inclusive of everyone.
- Role model great customer service.
- Role model the M&S behaviours and colleague expectations across the store.
- Support Colleague Managers by sharing observations of colleagues to help deliver high performance and recognise great colleagues.
- Support nearby stores if operationally required.
- Responsible for being a key holder and answering call-outs as required.
- Responsible for tasks related to the opening and closing of the building, including receipt of vehicles, temperature controls, logging operational issues with relevant Helpdesks, cash handling and TSL compliance in peripheral hours.
