Summary

The Assistant Operation Manager is an integral part of the M&S.com operations team and will take the lead on a growing and high profile area of our online business. Primary focus is independently owning and driving forward end to end management of our separate ROI online operation. This involves thinking more broadly about operational and business metrics and working with multiple stakeholders to make a combination of tactical and strategic decisions needed to achieve success.

All the details

Critical to this is working cross-functionally with teams in ROI, retail teams, supply chain, tech and central planning to ensure the ROI customer experience is as consistent and stable as possible – all the while acting as the custodian and gatekeeper to operational change. We also then want this candidate to have a growth mindset and not accept the status quo and push for change and evolution so that the ROI operation can truly lead the way.

With an increasingly complicated fulfilment network, coupled with ever evolving system capability – we strive on a hourly, daily and weekly basis to get the balance right between cost, utilisation, proposition and service. Of high importance to this role therefore is an ability to seek out and cut through problems and recommend actions – based off a comprehensive, agile understanding of live operational data.

What you will be doing

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with central data teams, supply chain analysts, and operational colleagues across online, retail, and distribution centres (DCs).
  • Drive a consistent, process-led approach to operational management across the fulfilment network.
  • Manage the order hierarchy and In-Store Fulfilment (ISF) decision tree to optimise where, when, and how orders are targeted throughout the network.
  • Assess and communicate trade-offs and dependencies associated with operational and fulfilment decisions.

What you will need

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to reduce operational costs and optimise fulfilment capability.
  • Experience leading and implementing new initiatives, driving operational and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across the business.
  • A track record of supporting wider business growth strategies through data-driven decision making and operational excellence.

Benefits

  • After completing your probationary period, you\\\’ll receive 20% colleague discount across all M&S products and many of our third-party brands for you and a member of your household.
  • Competitive holiday entitlement with the potential to buy extra holiday days!
  • Discretionary bonus schemes awarded based on how you achieve your personal objectives and our performance as a business.
  • A generous Defined Contribution Pension Scheme and Life Assurance.
  • A dedicated welcome to our teams with a tailored induction and a wide range of training programmes to develop your skills.
  • Amazing perks and discounts via our M&S Choices portal to maximise your financial and personal wellbeing.
  • Industry-leading parental, adoption, and neonatal policies, providing support and flexibility for your family.
  • Access to a fantastic range of wellbeing support for all colleagues including access to our 24/7 Virtual GP and PAM Assist to support you and your family.
  • A charity volunteer day to support a charity or cause you\\\’re passionate about through a dedicated day away from work.
