We are currently recruiting for a VAT Consultant - Compliance to join an in-house Indirect Tax team based in Reading.
This is an excellent opportunity for a VAT professional with strong compliance experience to take on a regional role, supporting VAT and indirect tax obligations across multiple EMEA and APAC jurisdictions.
You will work closely with internal finance teams and external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end VAT compliance cycle across multiple EMEA and APAC countries.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns, sales and purchase listings, Intrastat and other indirect tax filings.
- Liaise with internal finance teams and external tax service providers.
- Provide source reports, review draft VAT returns and assess GL account reconciliations.
- Ensure all required internal governance and approval processes are completed.
- Coordinate timely VAT payments and filing approvals.
- Review VAT exception reports, identify data anomalies and support the resolution of system or transactional issues.
- Support indirect tax audits and enquiries by gathering relevant data and documentation.
- Work with external advisors and the wider VAT team to support audit defence activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve, streamline and automate VAT compliance processes.
About You
We are looking for someone with
- 3-5 years' hands-on experience in VAT compliance.
- Previous experience within an in-house tax or finance environment is highly desirable.
- Experience across multiple EMEA and/or APAC jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of VAT/GST principles and compliance requirements.
- Experience working with external tax advisors and internal finance stakeholders.
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Taxation, Business or a related discipline.
- A recognised VAT/indirect tax qualification such as CTA, ATT or regional equivalent.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve compliance issues.
- A proactive approach to process improvement and automation.
