The Opportunity

We are working with a leading organisation in the energy transmission sector to recruit an exceptionally experienced Senior Procurement & Commercial Manager or Head of Procurement & Commercial on an initial 12 month contract, based in either Perth or Glasgow. This is a high-profile, senior leadership opportunity for a seasoned commercial practitioner with a proven track record of delivering mega capital infrastructure projects at the very highest level.

This is not a people management role in name only - we are looking for a hands-on, senior commercial leader with direct and demonstrable experience of owning and delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure programmes from the ground up.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Procurement & Commercial for Onshore Delivery, you will take full Commercial Ownership and responsibility for the commercial delivery of one or more mega capital infrastructure projects - covering Overhead Lines, Substations and/or Underground Cabling - with individual project values of circa £1 billion or more. You will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, driving value, innovation and best practice across the full procurement and commercial lifecycle.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking full commercial ownership and accountability for the end-to-end delivery of one or more mega onshore infrastructure capital projects (£1bn+) covering Overhead Lines, Substations and/or Underground Cabling
  • Implementing strong commercial and contracting strategies and executing end-to-end procurement activities to meet the diverse needs of the transmission business whilst complying with governance frameworks
  • Disciplined cost control and accurate forecasting across complex, high-value project portfolios
  • Strategic key supplier relationship management, working with stakeholders to ensure the best commercial outcomes
  • Handling claims preparation and resolution whilst safeguarding business objectives with a commitment to ethical practices
  • Embedding a consistent approach to reduce total cost of ownership and achieving value leadership targets

What We're Looking For

This role demands a candidate of exceptional calibre. To be considered you must be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 20 years of senior commercial experience as a hands-on practitioner - not solely as a people manager
  • Direct Commercial Ownership and responsibility for the commercial delivery of one or more mega capital infrastructure projects for Overhead Lines, Substations and/or Underground Cabling with a value of circa £1 billion or more
  • Proven experience of the full delivery phase of mega onshore infrastructure capital projects in demanding timescales in the UK, both pre and post contract, using NEC contracts
  • A strong background as commercial lead with responsibility for procuring, negotiating and managing contracts, associated risks, suppliers and sub-contractors
  • A professional, dynamic and agile approach to the successful commercial delivery of complex capital programmes covering the entire range of procurement and commercial activities from development through to execution
  • FRICS/MRICS qualification, a Quantity Surveying degree, or equivalent direct entry to a recognised professional body
  • A deep understanding of financial impacts, operational requirements and capital project dynamics to make informed and responsible commercial decisions

  • 12 month contract
  • Perth or Glasgow based with hybrid working - 2 to 3 days per week in office
  • Travel required
  • BPSS security clearance will be required
  • Interview process: Teams

This is an exceptional opportunity for a truly senior commercial professional to make a significant impact on one of the UK's most ambitious energy infrastructure programmes. If you have the experience and credentials outlined above, we would love to hear from you.
