An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) to support a major renewable energy and transmission infrastructure project in the north of Scotland. This role will play a key part in overseeing environmental compliance during the construction of a nationally significant HVDC converter station and 400kV substation development. Working client-side, you will act as the environmental and consents representative across construction activities, ensuring adherence to planning conditions, environmental legislation, and project environmental management plans. This is a site-based role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at Banniskirk Hub, Caithness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the independent Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) across the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental commitments, planning conditions, CEMP requirements, habitat management plans, peat management plans, and species protection plans.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and compliance monitoring activities across construction works.
  • Produce weekly and monthly environmental compliance reports for project stakeholders and planning authorities.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and support implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain environmental audit and inspection registers, including tracking mitigation measures and contractor compliance.
  • Provide environmental guidance and training to contractors and project teams.
  • Liaise closely with contractors, subcontractors, environmental managers, ecologists, planners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support delivery of environmental best practice across a complex multi-contractor infrastructure project.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience working as an Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW), Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), Environmental Advisor, or Environmental Compliance Manager on major infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, planning conditions, and construction environmental management processes.
  • Experience overseeing compliance with: CEMP requirements, ecological mitigation measures, habitat management plans, peat management, environmental permitting and site controls.
  • Background within utilities, renewables, transmission.
