BUUK Infrastructure is seeking a Web Developer to support the development, integration, and maintenance of business‑critical systems, websites, intranets, and applications across the group. This role will focus on building and supporting web‑based solutions, maintaining system integrity and security, and delivering innovative technology solutions that support business growth and operational efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled developer with strong PHP and web development experience who enjoys working across the full software development lifecycle in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain in‑house systems, intranets, and websites
- Analyse user requirements and contribute to solution design and development
- Develop and integrate in‑house applications with existing and future off‑the‑shelf systems
- Provide ongoing support and enhancements for business‑critical systems
- Develop and support reporting and collaboration platforms
Database Management & Data Integrity
- Design and support relational databases
- Work alongside database administration colleagues to maintain system performance
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across company systems
- Maintain appropriate database security controls and standards
Security & Best Practice
- Maintain security controls relevant to applications and databases
- Follow software development best practices and company standards
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and development methodologies
- Maintain software and database objects within source control systems
- Work closely with ICT colleagues to improve processes and efficiencies
- Support business users in a professional and customer‑focused manner
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and recommend improvements
- Contribute to the delivery of innovative solutions that provide measurable business value
The Successful Applicant
- Commercial experience developing websites and web‑based applications
- Excellent working knowledge of PHP
- Strong experience with HTML and CSS
- Good understanding of Object‑Oriented Programming principles
- Understanding of Responsive Web Design and media queries
- Experience using version control systems such as Git
- Experience working with relational databases
- Understanding of XML and JSON
- Knowledge of software development methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, or Prototyping approaches
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Customer‑focused approach with excellent communication skills
- Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Experience with PHP MVC frameworks
- Understanding of web security threats including SQL Injection, XSS, and Form Spoofing
- Experience working within Linux environments
- Experience using Docker
- Knowledge of package managers such as npm, Composer, or Bower
- Experience with CSS preprocessors including LESS or SASS
- Experience configuring Apache and PHP environments
- Experience working with SOAP and RESTful web services
- Experience using Jenkins and JIRA
- Knowledge of the utilities industry
