Ipsos is recruiting for a Junior Software Engineer. Ideally you will have a background and interest in audio technology, digital signal processing, someone familiar with common signal processing techniques and experience of real-world audio processing issues. This role sits in Ipsos’ CrossMedia – Audience Measurement team working on providing accurate measurement of Media consumption and advertising. Central to this is our audio recognition technology, which is under continuous development and optimisation.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will help develop and maintain Ipsos’s audio recognition technology. You will help to assess and improve the performance of our patented audio recognition algorithms, and to adapt and optimise them for new scenarios.

The Role:

  • Exploring and assessing potential enhancements to our audio recognition technology.
  • Diagnosing real-world limitations, and devising potential work-arounds.
  • Exploring new solutions to upcoming product goals.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, test and deliver solutions that meet client requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team in regular design reviews, sharing your insights and learning from experienced scientists to develop and maintain innovative solutions.
  • Researching and learning new technologies and techniques to stay up-to-date with industry trends.
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions to elicit innovative ideas and solutions.

About you: The successful candidate will bring:

  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (ideally C/C++, Matlab or Python).
  • A good technical degree (or higher) in Physics, Maths, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Familiarity with common signal processing techniques.
  • Experience of real-world audio processing issues.
  • Experience of writing deployable and maintainable software.
  • Knowledge of issue/project tracking software, e.g. Jira.
  • A strong interest in algorithms and a desire to continually improve those algorithms.
  • The curiosity and determination to understand technical systems from first principles.
  • Exemplary communications skills - an ability to produce clear, informative documentation.
  • An enthusiastic attitude with a ‘gets things done’ mentality.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including diagnosing issues within complex systems.
  • The willingness to rapidly pick up new technologies.
  • The ability to adapt schedules against changing priorities.
