The Role
MarketAxess is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to support our EMEA and APAC businesses by providing proactive, commercially focused compliance advisory coverage. This role will act as a key partner to the business, delivering regulatory guidance, supporting strategic initiatives, and serving as a primary point of contact for regulators across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping the firm manage compliance and financial crime risks while enabling continued business growth in a complex regulatory environment.
How You'll Help Take Us There
- Serve as the Compliance point of contact for designated business lines and support functions across EMEA and APAC, advising on regulatory and compliance risk matters.
- Provide timely, high-quality compliance advice to the business, liaising with the Chief Compliance Officer, EMEA & APAC as appropriate prior to issuance.
- Assess regulatory issues and incidents, determine notification requirements, and draft regulatory submissions across EMEA and APAC jurisdictions.
- Lead and support key regulatory interactions, including responding to regulatory enquiries and correspondence.
- Support new business initiatives and regulatory change projects, identifying compliance risks and advising on appropriate mitigating controls.
- Maintain and periodically update firm-wide risk assessments, ensuring they remain proportionate to the nature, scale, and complexity of the business.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of management information for internal committees, Boards, and senior stakeholders.
- Coordinate closely with local Compliance officers across EMEA and APAC where matters have cross-regional impact.
- Escalate material compliance issues to the Chief Compliance Officer, EMEA & APAC in a timely manner.
- Track, log, and manage regulatory notifications, ensuring appropriate follow-up and governance.
- Support the design and delivery of compliance and financial crime training across the business.
- Provide guidance on the application of venue rulebooks and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Contribute to compliance monitoring activities and monitor regulatory developments, sharing relevant updates with stakeholders.
- Manage regulatory applications and support responses to follow-up questions from regulators.
- Advise the onboarding team on financial crime requirements and support the annual MLRO reporting process.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years' experience in financial services compliance or a related control function, ideally within regulated trading venues, market infrastructure, or electronic trading environments.
- Strong knowledge of MiFID II, including market structure, algorithmic trading, regulatory reporting, outsourcing, and market abuse frameworks.
- Deep understanding of UK and/or EU financial services regulation; broader international exposure is an advantage.
- Fixed income market experience preferred but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and regulators.
- Strong commercial judgment, analytical capability, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate effectively under pressure.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience mentoring and supporting junior team members.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CRM or project management tools is a plus.
- Ability to incorporate AI into daily workflows; passion for ethical adoption of AI practices.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the UK permanently without employment visa sponsorship required now or in the future.
