Market 36 Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Estimator / Cost Engineer on behalf of our client based in Alton on a permanent basis.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Review technical engineering drawings and prepare detailed cost estimates for high-precision engineering components and assemblies.
  • Calculate project costs, including materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor pricing.
  • Manage the end-to-end tendering process, including bid preparation, proposal writing and submission.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal departments to obtain competitive pricing and delivery timescales.
  • Support the sourcing and purchasing of components for engineering builds.
  • Monitor expenditure, forecast production capacity and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to achieve competitive pricing.
  • Plan and manage workload to meet strict deadlines and project requirements.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Experienced Mechanical Engineer with a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' purchasing experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and a good understanding of GD&T.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, raw material specifications and costing methodologies.
  • Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and numerical skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and methodical approach.

Hours - Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.

Salary - Competitive, dependent on experience.
