The predicted salary is between 60000 - 80000 £ per year.

To work as a full member of the primary health care general practitioner team providing a full range of personal medical services to patients and contribute to the development of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
  • Provide other personal medical services to meet identified patients' needs.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice; disease management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
  • Work within current ICB policy for prescribing.
  • Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Take part in areas including health research, clinical auditing and data collection.
  • Contribute to QOF requirements and recording data appropriately.
  • Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
  • Undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care, as set by the Royal College of General Practitioners, General Medical Council and other regulatory bodies applicable to the staff within the Practice, Department of Health, ICB, CQC, and related organisations.

Service Development

  • Be involved in developing primary care services to meet the needs of the practice population.
  • Work with the practice team to ensure access targets are reached.
  • Work with the practice team to ensure immunisation and health inequalities targets as defined within the GMS contract are reached.
  • Support health development and ensure health promotion work is undertaken to allow the practice population to make informed choices.
  • Ensure the practice is represented at appropriate meetings, e.g., Practice Based Commissioning Groups.

Managerial

  • Awareness of, and compliance with, all relevant organisation policies and procedures, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and infection control.
  • Committed to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to evaluated audit and clinical standards setting within the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development of computer-based records.
  • Contribute to summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.

Quality

  • Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.
  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions either directly or under supervision.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team's performance and service expansion.
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients' needs.
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Prescribe safe and effective medicines management which conforms to NICE Guidance, DH directives and Good Prescribing Practice as defined by the BNF.
  • Operate safe management and regular review for all patients receiving repeat prescriptions.
  • Comply with Prescribing Incentive Scheme targets.
  • Contribute to referrals to other medical service providers with adequate information for proper assessment.
  • Support any complaints policy and procedure to ensure proper investigation and follow-up actions as needed.

Confidentiality

  • All patients have the right to expect that all practice staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately at all times.
  • Postholders may access confidential information relating to patients, carers and staff, which must be kept confidential in accordance with policies.
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues or the business of the practice may be divulged only to authorised persons in line with policies and data protection requirements.

Communication

  • The post-holder must recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and strive to communicate effectively with team members, patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly.

  • Use personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Identify risks in work activities and manage them accordingly.
  • Minimise infection risk and adhere to infection prevention and control policies; attend infection control training; integrate infection prevention into ongoing professional development.
  • Take responsibility to ensure safe practice and routine reviews of patients on repeat prescriptions.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Maintain continued education through courses and study days as part of appraisals and Personal Development Plan.
  • Ensure professional registration and licensing are maintained through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in all practice training programmes and annual performance review, keeping a log of development activities.
  • Engage in NHS Appraisal and GMC Revalidation processes; ensure mandatory training is up-to-date (e.g., Basic Life Support, safeguarding).

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration MBChB or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of teamwork in providing quality care.
  • Decisive, confident working style with ability to manage competing priorities.
  • DBS Check satisfactory.
  • MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP.
  • Experience with EMIS Web and GP clinical systems.
  • Interest in additional clinical skills.
  • Ability to advocate for clinical standards.
