Locum Dispenser
We have an exciting opportunity for a part‑time enthusiastic, reliable, and dynamic individual to join our team of dispensers and counter assistants.
The role will include dispensing, ordering and stock control of drugs.
You will be based at both Market Harborough Medical Centre and Husbands Bosworth Medical Centre.
We are looking for a candidate to provide cover for 2 days a week for 3 months.
Main duties of the job
As a dispenser your main duties will be dispensing, ordering stock and helping patients with queries.
You will pick medications off the shelf as per the prescription and reorder stock as needed.
You will also ensure safe storage of medication and controlled drugs, ensure dispensing is timely and accurate, maintain the on‑call drug box stock supplies daily, and follow proper procedure for the administration of controlled drugs.
- Job responsibilities
- Dispense medication as directed by the GPs and in line with Practice Protocol.
- Maintain stock control.
- Order drugs as required.
- Ensure the safe storage of medication and controlled drugs.
- Ensure the process of dispensing is timely and accurate.
- Maintain the on‑call drug box stock supplies daily.
- Ensure proper procedure for the administration of controlled drugs.
- Check deliveries and ensure they match the order.
- Prepare prescriptions for submission to the PPA on a monthly basis.
- Collect monies from private patients and paying dispensary patients.
- Liaise with patients regarding exempt status and ensure all FP10s are processed correctly.
- Deal with telephone enquiries and face‑to‑face queries in a professional and friendly manner.
- Liaise closely with the dispensing GP lead.
- Be flexible and cover holiday and sickness of colleagues.
- Support and assist team members.
- Be willing to train staff as necessary.
- Ensure good lines of communication between colleagues.
- Work under pressure and within tight timetables.
- Liaise with the Business Manager who oversees the dispensary.

Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.

- Friendly, polite and calm disposition.
- Keyboard skills.
- Understanding, acceptance and adherence to strict rules of confidentiality.
- Strong personal organisation, self‑reliance and motivation but able to work for the team in a flexible manner.
