Market 36 Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager on behalf of our client. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and commercially minded individual to drive business growth by identifying new market opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships and expanding existing accounts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys generating new business, analysing market trends and turning commercial insight into profitable opportunities. The role includes travel throughout the UK, Ireland and occasionally internationally.

Main Purpose of the Role

As the Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and developing new business opportunities that support sustainable growth, increased sales and improved profitability. You will work closely with internal departments and external customers to expand market presence, develop new sales channels and strengthen customer relationships while ensuring commercial strategies align with wider business objectives.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement business development strategies to identify priority sectors, customer groups, territories and routes to market.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities while growing existing customer accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with new and existing customers, distributors, sales agents and strategic partners.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity, customer behaviour and pricing to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Recommend new products, services and market approaches based on customer feedback and market insight.
  • Develop and manage commercial projects from initial opportunity through to implementation.
  • Monitor and report on business development activity, pipeline growth, conversion rates and market penetration.
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing and Operational teams to ensure commercial plans align with business objectives.
  • Coordinate activities with the wider sales department and local service managers.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and prepare regular reports on sales performance and business development activity.
  • Travel throughout the UK, Ireland and internationally to meet customers and support business growth initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support the continuous improvement of products and services through customer feedback and market intelligence.
  • Identify new routes to market including online channels, distributor networks and strategic partnerships.
  • Assist in the development of pricing strategies and commercial proposals.
  • Build strong internal relationships to ensure customer expectations are met throughout the sales process.
  • Contribute to evidence-based planning through detailed reporting and commercial analysis.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years' B2B sales or business development experience, ideally within the electrical, industrial, tools or PPE sectors.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to analyse markets, pricing and customer trends.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the confidence to influence decision-makers.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities with the capability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Good analytical skills with a results-driven and commercially focused approach.
  • Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM system would be advantageous.
  • Experience launching into new markets, developing new sales channels or working within a growing business would be beneficial.
  • A flexible approach to work with the willingness to travel and stay away overnight when required.
  • A full UK driving licence.
