As Product Safety and Compliance Engineer, you will be part of a global compliance team reporting to the Global Hardware Safety and Product Compliance Manager. You will also be a key player in the TTO and P&A Engineering Team. You will be the main driver of regulatory activities and procedures for the Product Division, overseeing core certifications for all new and existing products, and acting as a link between R&D, external stakeholders and the wider global compliance team.
You will work closely with the local R&D organization as well as other regulatory compliance experts around the world and 3rd party laboratories for testing purposes, participating in and/or leading cross-functional projects for new product development and current product lifecycle maintenance. The role is based at our 80-person R&D centre of excellence for Thermal Transfer Overprinting (TTO) and Print & Apply (P&A) labelling systems at the Science Park in Nottingham, UK. Occasional travel will be required, to 3rd party safety or EMC laboratories as well as other Markem-Imaje locations, in the UK and abroad.
Key Responsibilities- The Hardware Safety and Product Compliance Engineer ensures product compliance with regulatory requirements in key markets (Europe, USA/Canada). The regulatory domains concerned are safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio spectrum, telecommunications, environment and cybersecurity.
- The main certifications concerned are IEC CB, CE, NRTL, FCC, IC, ROHS, REACH, TSCA.
- Participate in Thermal Transfer Overprint and Print & Apply new product development projects, leading the hardware regulatory certifications for Europe, USA, and Canada.
- Prepare and support the project team by planning and estimating compliance activities, providing pre-compliance guidelines and organising pre-compliance tests in safety and EMC during product design and development.
- Manage the ongoing compliance and certification of the TTO and P&A product portfolio over the full product lifecycle, planning recertification work ahead of time and providing compliance input for any proposed product modifications.
- Lead projects where required to update products or certification to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Proactively stay up to date on the standards, directives, and regulations applicable to your products to ensure conformity of our product ranges.
- Inform and educate stakeholders about evolutions and changes to standards, directives and regulations.
- Assist the regional customer services or trade/importation services to support our global customer-base.
- Ensure/maintain the safety and conformity of products, by supporting inspection audits at factory or processes audits (ISO9001) in product compliance.
- Build good relationships with third-party laboratories and maintain an efficient customer/supplier collaboration (responsiveness, cost, delivery quality), seeking reliable new partners as required.
- Proactively propose improvements to certification scope, processes and partnerships to increase customer satisfaction and reduce time to market.
- BSc in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant scientific discipline OR comparable industry experience.
- Significant experience in Safety, EMC standards/directives.
- Project management accreditation would be advantageous (PMP, Prince2β¦)
- Proven track record in certifications for Safety, EMC, Radio domains, and mechanisms of certification.
- Good knowledge of CE, NRTL, FCC, IC regulations, including Machinery Directive, Low voltage directive, EMC Directive, RED Directive, RoHS, REACH, PFAS.
- Knowledge of EMC testing including EMC pre-compliance during product development, EMC testing at external labs, and EMC mitigation.
- Experience in compliance assessment of industrial machines or industrial installations.
- Experience with industrial printers, packaging machinery, or other high volume, high reliability production line equipment would be advantageous.
- Ability to interpret/analyze mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, diagrams.
- Ability to work in international cross functional teams.
- Rigorous attention to detail, with the capacity to adapt and curiosity to learn.
