If you’re passionate about complex, high-quality work and want to play a key role in a growing, collaborative team this could be your next move !Why join Markel Law?Be part of a Legal 500-recognised employment team with deep expertiseWork on high-quality, complex matters across both contentious and non-contentious employment lawAdvise a broad client base—from SMEs to large national and international organisationsJoin a supportive, experienced team (majority 15+ years PQE)Enjoy real opportunities to develop leadership skills and shape junior talentWhat you’ll be doing:You’ll play a key role advising clients and managing employment matters end-to-end, including:Conducting proceedings in the Employment Tribunal on behalf of insured or private clients; to include:Reviewing papersDrafting claims or responses and EAT applications/responsesComplying with all case management instructionsBriefing CounselAttending hearings personally where appropriatePreparing witness statementsEnsuring that relevant stakeholders are kept up-dated in relation to prospects.Advising insurers, insured and private clients in relation to general employment law issues and existing or contemplated Employment disputes prior to the issue of proceedings; to include:All aspects of ACAS early conciliation including settlement and agreements.Providing opinions on prospects.Advising on general day to day HR issues and assisting with grievance and disciplinary procedures. Reviewing, advising upon and drafting employment documents such as Settlement agreements, contracts of employment, and company handbooks/policiesAdvising upon more complex project work such as Collective consultation and TUPEAssisting in disseminating employment law updates, mail shots, training to clients, the insurer and across the other Markel Law departments, to include:Assisting in the drafting of employment law material for use by colleagues or clientsAssisting in the presentation of courses in employment law for the benefit of colleagues, clients or prospective clientsAssisting colleagues in other departments by, where necessary, conducting disciplinary or grievance hearings or investigationsKeep accurate records and time record in an appropriate mannerInvoicing clients as necessaryWhat you’ll bring:Experience in undertaking both contentious and non-contentious workEducated to degree level or equivalentExperience of communicating effectively in a professional environment with a range of peopleGood IT skills across Microsoft, Word, Outlook etcExcellent data entry skills and attention to detail/accuracyHave excellent customer care skillsBe commercially aware at all timesHave an analytical and problem–solving approach to adviceBe able to work in a fast paced environment and uphold company standardsHave good document drafting skills and an eye for detailHave the ability to gain and retain the client confidenceHave sound working knowledge of all appropriate electronic research facilitiesWhat’s in it for you?Competitive salary + annual bonus25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays) with option to buy/sellPrivate medical, dental, life assurance & income protectionGenerous pension and additional lifestyle benefitsOngoing learning, development, and career progression opportunitiesA genuinely flexible working environmentOur culture:At Markel, everything we do is grounded in our values:We’re all about people.
