The opportunity: We have an exciting new opportunity for a Major Trading Partners Account Director to join our NMUK Broker team. Our Major Trading Partners (MTPs) are those which are of global, strategic importance to Markel and include some of our industry’s biggest names. Each are of very significant scale and advise across a multiple of customer types and product solutions. They tend to have multi-site office locations, are well supported by central strategy and placement personnel and are focused on growth, either by acquisition or by delivering strong new business performance themselves.
The Major Trading Partners Account Director role reports into the Broker Development Director. The team is responsible for driving profitable growth through the development of our strategic broker relationships and balancing a key function between strategic engagement of these brokers, with execution of our agreed and target development plans both within our own organisation, but also across the strategic brokers customer facing personnel.
The role predominantly focuses on leading the delivery of the agreed strategic broker development plans, quarterbacking our engagement and new business activity. This means working closely with our wider regional business development team to man-mark in scope broker offices and leading the key personnel within each site – in order to ensure our strategic goals and objectives are being delivered ‘on the ground’ with our broker partners. Equally important, is handling production volumes to ensure we see everything we should, that we are effectively quoting on each and every opportunity and most importantly converting to the required levels that ultimately deliver our agree plan targets and objectives. This requires strong management across both the brokers different decision points and co-ordinating our own internal efforts to meet these from BD to new business underwriting and even into our renewal’s capability.
What you’ll be doing:
- Own and develop the current and future year account plans in place with each partner to ensure Markel is a preferred insurer for all of the products and services Markel has to offer.
- Build clear new business and portfolio phased production targets – which are closely managed each and every week to ensure we meet our agreed revenue objectives.
- Lead day to day key relationships at both central and local levels within your panel of strategic brokers, to ensure our strategic development plans and commitments are well understood and executed at all levels within the broker organisation.
- Equally important is the internal management and oversight of our activity across business development, new business underwriting and renewals – to ensure our on the ground efforts are appropriately focused and targets are being delivered.
- Work with the Broker Development Director to support the central engagement with each partner broker and provide the results and feedback/action plans required to meet the jointly agreed targets aligned to each partner.
- Possess a deep understanding of Markel risk appetite and the features, advantages and benefits of every product and proposition Markel has to offer.
- Demonstrate a high level of sales professionalism and discipline through timely and accurate activity reporting, maintenance of CRM and documentation of meetings.
- Prepare for, plan and lead regular meetings with partners to target and achieve the best outcomes for Markel.
- Expertly project manage invitations to tender for deals as they arise, as well as their execution through to launch and steady-state production.
Our must haves:
- Have previous experience within the General Insurance industry and working with the senior leadership and placement teams of large, sophisticated brokers with a UK footprint of offices.
- Demonstrable experience and success in roles with a business development focus and have a consistent record of delivery against new business and portfolio growth targets and objectives.
- Understanding of project management techniques and partner management of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Show a high level of competence in the use of data to robustly performance manage deal delivery and instigate corrective action as necessary.
- Possess a high standard of presentation skills including the ability to differentiate these according to audience and target outcome.
