The International Brand, Marketing and Communications team is a fun, integrated and results-driven team of motivated and dedicated professionals whose role is to promote, protect and enhance the reputation of Markel International, wherever it operates. We build value through a targeted business‐partnership approach that delivers commercial and creative solutions to drive preference and relevance with customers around the world.

In line with the business's ambitious profitable growth targets and its vision to put Markel 'on the map', the Brand, Marketing and Communications team restructured at the end of 2025, aligning itself to a new international structure and the delivery of key business objectives. The investment in the team is testament to the value the business places in function and the key role it will play in achieving its objectives. This has created several exciting opportunities within the team, including this new role, which will help to shape the marketing and communications for the London Market business and drive awareness of Markel with its customers.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Partner with senior leaders and key stakeholders to ensure consistent, timely, and impactful communication across the business.
  • Coordinate external communications activity for key lines of business for the London Market business, ensuring alignment to business goals and growth ambitions.
  • Support with media relations and inbound press enquiries for the London Market business.
  • Drive a programme of thought leadership production, award submissions and conference participation for experts.
  • Champion collaboration between communications, brand, marketing and the wider business, especially Underwriting, Claims and Distribution teams.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Brand, Communications & Marketing team to align internal and external messaging.
  • Drive a culture of measurement and continuous improvement across all internal and external communications activity.
  • Oversee the reporting and performance evaluation of internal and external communications campaigns.
  • Ensure all activity contributes to the delivery of business objectives, including engagement, brand awareness, and lead generation.

Must-haves

  • Have proven internal and external communications experience (preferably in the insurance or financial services industries).
  • Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to take complex or technical ideas and turn them into high-quality written content and campaigns with minimal supervision.
  • Possess a strong understanding of intermediary‐led distribution models.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of influencing cross‐functional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Be able to work to deadlines and handle their time effectively.
  • Be comfortable working in a fast‐paced environment.
  • Align with and promote Markel's brand values.
