Overview
In this role you will drive growth in Markel’s care portfolio by building broker relationships and winning new business across Scotland. You combine underwriting expertise with a strong broker-facing approach to expand Markel’s market presence and influence the future direction of our care proposition. You will operate with autonomy across a large territory, shaping opportunities and delivering profitable portfolio growth in a highly specialist market.

Responsibilities
- Build and strengthen broker relationships across your territory
- Identify and win new business opportunities
- Increase awareness of the Markel proposition within the care market
- Represent Markel at broker meetings, industry events and networking opportunities
- Underwrite and negotiate new business risks within authority
- Develop and manage a strong pipeline of opportunities
- Drive sustainable portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting discipline
- Contribute to a significant annual new business target
- Work closely with underwriting, distribution and operational teams
- Share market insight and broker intelligence
- Support the development of Markel's Care proposition
- Act as a trusted business partner to brokers and internal stakeholders
Key requirements
- Commercial underwriting experience within the care / social welfare sector
- Experience working with brokers and developing accounts
- Strong relationship-building and networking skills
- Proven track record of generating new business
- Proactive, self-starting mindset
- Confidence working autonomously across a large territory
- Strong negotiation and trading skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Care sector experience is advantageous but not essential
