At Markel, we’re looking for a strategic and commercially-minded Head of Marketing to lead our team of Marketing Business Partners and serve as the senior marketing lead for the UK retail broker channel, an area of focus for growth at Markel. This is a fantastic opportunity for a collaborative and results-driven leader to shape and align marketing plans across the business, working closely with senior stakeholders, including the Divisional Director, wider marketing functions, and product and distribution teams

The opportunity:
The Marketing department within UK National Markets is a fun, high performing team of motivated and talented marketers covering the full marketing mix delivering innovative and bespoke insurance solutions to UK businesses, from charities and care organisations to providers of IT services and media companies.
In line with the business’s ambitious growth targets and its’ NMUK strategy the Marketing team restructured at the beginning of 2022, aligning itself to the key distribution channels within its’ UK business. The investment in the team is testament to the value the business places in the Marketing function and the key role it will play in achieving its growth objectives. This has created a number of exciting opportunities within the team, including a new role within the Marketing Services team, supporting the delivery of the NMUK Marketing plan. This role represents fabulous opportunity to forge an exciting career in Marketing.
What you’ll be doing:

Leadership – Own the marketing plan for our Broker channel, ensuring alignment to commercial goals and growth ambitions

Lead a team of Marketing Business Partners, coaching and developing them to deliver impactful marketing plans and strengthen business alignment

Translate channel objectives into clear marketing plans and priorities, working collaboratively with content, digital, PR, events, and insights teams.

Provide day-to-day leadership and performance management for the Marketing Business Partner team

Champion collaboration between marketing and the wider business, especially Sales, Underwriting, Claims and Proposition teams.

Support the annual marketing planning process for the Broker channel, ensuring effective prioritisation of investment, campaigns, and resources

Guide the briefing, scoping, and delivery of high-impact marketing activity, ensuring all projects are aligned with brand, message, and customer outcomes

Work closely with Campaign Delivery and Marketing Services teams to ensure timely and effective execution of marketing activity

Performance & Insight – Drive a culture of measurement and continuous improvement across all marketing activity

Oversee the reporting and performance evaluation of marketing campaigns within the Broker channel

Ensure all activity contributes to business objectives including engagement, lead generation, brand awareness, and sales enablement

Proven experience in a senior marketing role in the insurance industry (insurer, broker or distribution

Strong understanding of intermediary-led distribution models

Demonstrable experience leading teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders

Strong commercial acumen and strategic mindset

Confident communicator with excellent presentation and influencing skills

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
