The Opportunity
As a Development Underwriter, you’ll play a pivotal role in expanding our Financial Lines portfolio across PI, D&O, Technology, and specialist risks. You’ll be the face of Markel within your broker market, building strong partnerships, uncovering opportunities, and driving profitable growth. You'll join our fastest‑growing UK channel, where broker engagement and new‑business volumes are increasing rapidly. With strategic, key, and development broker segments already established, you’ll have a clear framework and strong backing to make waves.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Underwrite and convert new business opportunities across complex Professional & Management risks, including Technology and (ideally) Life Sciences.
- Deliver exceptional service and maintain strong, solutions‑focused broker relationships.
- Conduct regular broker visits and represent Markel at events, forums, and market meetings.
- Maintain accurate broker data, pipelines, and activity in the CRM system.
- Identify growth opportunities within your region and collaborate with internal teams to deliver outstanding outcomes.
- Support and mentor colleagues to help build a consistent, high‑quality underwriting culture.
- Contribute insights to help develop and shape our Financial Lines proposition.
What You’ll Bring
- Shown experience underwriting within PI or Financial lines.
- The ability to develop strong, successful broker relationships.
- Strong commercial decision‑making, negotiation, and trading skills.
- Experience generating and converting new business in a broker‑led market.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence influencing partners.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Progress toward DIP CII / ACII (or already qualified).
