The opportunity:

We have a great opportunity for a Clinical Negligence & Personal Injury Solicitor/Underwriter to join our ATE insurance team on an initial 1-year FTC which can lead to a permanent role after this, in our Croydon office, (2 days in the office, 3 days working from home).

The ATE team provides insurance for litigation giving access to justice, through the legal system, for parties seeking a remedy to a wrong doing. The ATE team consists of 15 people based out of Croydon who enjoy hybrid working from home as well as the office. The department only deals with law firms, who distribute the insurance, and insure various types of litigation from commercial, clinical negligence or personal injury.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Establish and develop a good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Risk assess proposals for a variety of cases (primarily personal injury and clinical negligence), issue quotes and bind insurance policies where appropriate
  • Support the governance strategy through monitoring, training, periodical review/follow up and conducting external audits (feedback & improvement plans) – some overnight stays possible
  • Peer review work other underwriters work
  • Attending/participating in risk committee meetings
  • Deliver training to the team on legal issues and the impact on the schemes/policies we provide
  • Research and help develop new products for new markets
  • Possibly attending external exhibitions nationwide as required

Our must haves:

  • Legally qualified / PQE 3 years +
  • Litigation experience in personal injury and clinical negligence is essential
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Commercial litigation experience is an advantage
  • Underwriting experience is an advantage
  • Insurance experience is an advantage
