The UK claims department aims to be the market leader in the provision of an efficient, cost effective, creative and professional service to our brokers and clients. We strive to be proactive and flexible in the management of claims whilst maintaining our integrity.
The claims team works with the underwriting and sales teams in order to facilitate close communication and exchange of ideas and is an integral part of the product and customer service delivered to our customers. The claims operation consists of four teams in four UK locations and handles a mixed and varied portfolio of first and third party claims. Our vision is to be the most customer focused, nimble and value adding claims team in the market.
We are currently looking for a Delegated Claims Specialist to work on an initial 1 year fixed term maternity cover contract in our Leeds office.
Duties and accountabilities:
- Reporting directly to the Head of Insurance Claims – Markel UK, your primary responsibility will be to oversee, monitor and audit our delegated claims arrangements, TPAs and cover holders.
- Priorities to include ensuring appropriate claim control to minimise claims costs and avoid leakage, creating transparency around performance of our delegated service providers and focusing on ensuring adherence to the Markel Claims Philosophy.
What you’ll be doing:
- Take ownership for the oversight and governance of the UK delegated claims handling relationships.
- Ensure that all delegated schemes and binders are following best practice.
- Responsible for building relationships with our strategic partners and serving as the point of contact between Markel, TPAs and cover holders for claims related communications.
- Lead the onboarding process for new delegated authority schemes, gathering and assessing the information required to evaluate the performance of a TPA for appointment to a delegated authority arrangement.
- Work with the delegated authority TPA or cover holder to ensure that they meet and evidence compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory standards pertaining to the authority that they are exercising on behalf of Markel.
- Ensuring the delegated providers comply with all of our service requirements, claims handling procedures, organisational and structural arrangements.
- Undertake annual audits for each of the delegated providers both face to face and remotely.
- Own the renewal process for each of the delegated providers on an annual basis.
- Work with the relevant members of the claims team to obtain feedback on referrals, service levels and any issues arising and in order to share best practice with our TPAs.
- Acquire and review regular MI, for accuracy and sufficiency, and to ensure compliance and report on trends, issues and best practice.
- Review and process monthly bordereaux and report on trends and issues.
- Review and report on any complaints made in respect of our delegated providers and ensure lessons are learned.
- Be responsible for off-boarding arrangements and monitoring delegated providers in run-off.
- Managing loss funds and processing all required payments.
- Work with the Claims Compliance Manager to identify areas of improvement and ways to streamline processes, procedures and systems.

- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English language.

- A strong focus on systems and processes.
- IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel.
- An ability to work collaboratively and be a teammate but also have the ability to work independently.
