The Assistant Claims Manager Marine Liability will lead and develop the London-based team of three, specialising in Marine Liability claims. This role involves managing complex lead primary and excess claims, ensuring strong governance and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 3 individuals in London who are responsible for Marine Liability claims, with a view to maintaining a leading team to drive and support the claims’ philosophy and overall underwriting and claims proposition.
- Handle open market lead primary and excess claims and oversee delegated claims arrangements across all product lines.
- Provide support and guidance to team members on strategy, coverage, reserving and escalation to senior management where appropriate.
- Agree and monitor service standards/KPIs for delegated arrangements and escalate material issues in line with governance.
- Be a point person for the volume team in Leeds and take ownership of the claim’s allocation between the London team and the Leeds team.
- Support the various Directors product heads in the underwriting business plan process, identifying and detailing the claims handling capabilities and resourcing requirements needed to support the underwriting plan.
- Provide technical input into product wordings and class‑specific vendor and expert support.
- Assist in producing monthly and quarterly reports identifying key incurred movements and notifications, claims trends and current focus of the team.
- Present reports, incorporating detailed data analysis, to support the quarterly reserving process with the Underwriting and Actuarial teams.
- Drive efficiencies and high performance within the team, including regular review of priorities, workloads, (future) team structure and processes.
- Produce, comment upon and check monthly KPI reporting for clarity and accuracy.
- Escalate any matters to the Claims Manager where necessary.
- Drive team broker interaction to deliver a more customer‑focused and value‑adding service; share relevant information with the Claims Manager and the broader claims teams.
- Drive proactive claims handling within the team allowing us to showcase our value as a leader in the Marine Liability market.
Key Skills
- Have leadership capability, or demonstrate the ability to lead a team.
- Be an experienced London Market claims practitioner with a deep understanding of the team specific classes of business and the ability to handle high‑value, complex, international and multi‑party claims in these areas.
- Have a proven ability to manage class‑specific vendors and DCAs to deliver high‑quality customer service.
- Have positive relationships with key brokers, demonstrating strong client‑management skills.
- Have knowledge of the Lloyd’s and Company market.
- Be a proficient user of London Market ECF or CLASS, with strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel and the ability to produce and interpret claims MI, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and our in‑house systems.
