The Role

Mark Toney Ice Cream Company, a leading supplier of Traditional Italian Ice Cream in Tyne and Wear, is seeking a motivated and reliable Ice Cream / Gelato Maker - Production Manager to join our growing team.

In this role, you will be involved in all aspects of the production process, from managing the daily operations of machinery to ensuring that every batch of ice cream meets our strict quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with the team, management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Assist with the production and packaging of ice cream, gelato, and sorbet products.
  • Operate machinery such as mixers, fillers, and packers.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure high product standards.
  • Maintain health, safety, and food hygiene standards at all times.
  • Follow recipes to ensure accurate production of each flavour.
  • Control the volume of products being made and used in production.
  • Keep detailed records in line with Environmental Health regulations.
  • Ensure the workplace remains clean and tidy to a high standard.
  • Track ingredients and help with weekly supplier orders.
  • Minimise waste and maintain efficiency throughout the production process.
  • Contribute to process optimisation as production volumes grow.
  • Play a key role in hiring and mentoring junior staff as we scale.

The Person

  • At least 3 years working in a food environment
  • At least 2 years working in Ice Cream production (Preferable)
  • A Food Hygiene certificate
  • Able to work comfortably as an individual and as part of a team
  • Positive, can-do attitude, polite, service driven, excellent reliability and ready to go the extra mile.
  • Passionate about food and willing to get involved in all aspects of the business operation
  • Available to work extra time and occasionally weekends as the business requires
  • Good attention to detail and a strong work ethic
  • Experience in ice cream / gelato production
