As Markets Editor for Farmers Weekly, you'll be at the heart of the stories, trends and market movements shaping UK agriculture.
From commodity prices and input costs to emerging opportunities in carbon and biodiversity markets, you'll help farmers make informed business decisions through trusted, insightful journalism across print, digital and podcast channels.

- What you’ll be doing
- Lead Farmers Weekly's markets coverage across print, digital and podcast channels, producing engaging content that translates complex economic and commodity trends into practical insights for farming audiences.
- Deliver comprehensive coverage of agricultural input and output markets, including labour, seed, feed, fertiliser, red diesel, crop protection, fodder, cereals and oilseeds, livestock and milk prices, while identifying emerging opportunities such as carbon markets and biodiversity net gain.
- Produce original journalism, analysis, interviews and long‑form features that provide subscribers with valuable market intelligence, expert commentary and actionable advice.
- Use data, charts, graphics and infographics to strengthen storytelling and improve audience understanding of market movements and trends.
- Manage the weekly markets content workflow, including writing, editing and proofing copy, while ensuring continuity of coverage during holidays and peak periods.
- Oversee the production and accuracy of Farmers Weekly markets data, working closely with third‑party data providers and internal stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with the news, business and wider editorial teams to integrate markets expertise into broader coverage, special projects and cross‑brand initiatives across Mark Allen Agriculture.
- Contribute to editorial planning by identifying stories, trends and opportunities that will engage audiences, support subscription value and strengthen Farmers Weekly's position as a trusted source of market insight.
- Must-haves
- Proven experience in journalism, editing or content creation, ideally covering agricultural, commodity or financial markets.
- Strong understanding of agricultural supply chains, input markets and commodity dynamics.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging.
- Experience using data to support editorial content, including charts, visualisations and market analysis.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and workflows.
- Confidence collaborating with colleagues across different teams and disciplines.
- Nice-to-haves
- Experience creating multimedia content, including podcasts or video.
- Knowledge of UK agriculture and the issues affecting farming businesses.
- Experience working with third‑party data providers and market intelligence sources.
