Company Description

The Maritime Search and Rescue Council (MSARC) is an international body dedicated to promoting maritime search and rescue (SAR) training, research, and expertise globally. We are a diverse network of professionals, volunteers, and organizations committed to enhancing safety for those working in and around the oceans. MSARC advances SAR effectiveness through initiatives, including recognition of SAR professionals, training programs, research projects, professional development, and advocacy. Our collective efforts aim to save lives at sea and raise public awareness about maritime safety.

What difference will you make?

As an instructor, your knowledge and experience will help equip SAR personnel around the world with the skills they need to save lives in some of the most dangerous and remote maritime environments. Your contribution will strengthen global SAR capacity, enhance safety for seafarers and coastal communities, and help create a more resilient and connected international rescue network.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for individuals with significant professional experience in maritime search and rescue, coastguard operations, or related emergency services at a management level. You should be confident delivering training, whether in-person or online, and ideally have experience teaching adult learners in operational or technical environments. Familiarity with international SAR standards is a must. A collaborative approach, strong communication skills, and cultural sensitivity are key, as our learners and partners come from diverse global contexts.

What will you be doing?

You will contribute to the design, delivery, and refinement of maritime SAR training programmes, working with a diverse range of learners, from new volunteers to experienced emergency responders. Depending on your availability and expertise, your work may include

  • Delivering online or in-person instruction in key SAR competencies (e.g. SAR operations, radar, radio communication, on-scene coordination, navigation)
  • Reviewing and updating course materials, ensuring alignment with international best practice and Maritime SAR Council standards
  • Supporting the development of new e-learning content and assessments in collaboration with the LMS team
  • Mentoring and advising trainees, providing technical guidance and professional feedback
  • Contributing to capacity-building initiatives in underserved or developing regions
  • Supporting knowledge-sharing through workshops, webinars, or peer-to-peer training sessions

This is a flexible role, you can contribute as a one-off guest instructor, or commit to ongoing course delivery depending on your availability and interests. Whether you’re actively involved in SAR or retired with years of experience to share, your input is welcomed and valued.
