We are hiring 2 Offshore Mechanical Technicians to join our Assets & Operations Department.
About the Role
The primary role of the Offshore Mechanical Technician is to ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of MDL Flex‑lay assets whilst offshore. This involves working with a range of equipment, hydraulics, control systems, and associated components used in the flex‑lay operations of MDL equipment. Being part of a small team of Electricians and Mechanics, the Mechanical Technician will also be responsible for assisting the Supervisor in compiling reports for onshore management. The Mechanical Technician will on occasion stand in for the MDL Team Lead/Supervisor and act as focal point offshore ensuring clients requirements are understood, prioritised, and delivered.

- Follow MDL Integrated Management System, Policies and Procedures
- Actively engage in the continuous improvement of process and procedures
- Actively engage in reporting of issues and lessons learned
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- To follow the process of continuous improvement and to demonstrate a continuous improvement approach towards all processes, products, and tasks within their role.
- To show commitment to HSEQ and to set good personal examples on HSEQ issues within their area of operation and influence.
- Required to report all accidents and near misses to their line manager.
- To lead by example and set high standards at all times, in all aspects of their role.
- To actively participate in all aspects of HSEQ awareness, education, training and communication.
- To STOP any job, or any other activity, if not adhering to MDL standards or procedures.
- To take on the role of a Temporary Supervisor where required.
- Occasionally support in Yard based works when required.
- To ensure spares inventories are conducted accordingly, to ensure spares/tooling lists are kept up to date and reported back to asset management.
Qualifications
- +5 Years’ experience in an offshore environment
- Offshore Flex Lay experience (Preferred)
- Modern Apprenticeship, time served (or equivalent) in a mechanical/hydraulic based field (Essential)
- Able to demonstrate competence in reading and understanding hydraulic/mechanical drawings (Essential)
- Able to interpret and write hydraulically/mechanically biased documentation (Mandatory)
- Good communication skills, able to relay technical information to various stakeholders.
- Good written and verbal use of the English language
- Computer literate (Preferred)
- Able to identify and use technical tools and instruments (Essential)
- Able to fact find, fault identify, and problem solve (Preferred)
Work Environment
Work is primarily based on client vessels globally. Exposure to inclement weather conditions (heat, cold, wet, etc.) is inevitable. The job holder can be subject to high noise areas and often a very dirty environment, as well as exposed to heavy tools and high pressurised equipment.
