We’re looking for a commercially minded Management Accountant to join our team and play a key role in driving financial insight and performance. The Management Accountant will support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to the business. The role focuses on producing management accounts, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and performing detailed financial analysis to aid decision‑making.
The ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments to improve financial performance and reporting accuracy. This role will primarily be based in our UK office in Cove, Aberdeen with occasional travel to other MDL locations.
Key Tasks- Assist with the preparation of financial statements, group and subsidiary management accounts, reports, and forecasts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting principles and regulations.
- Analyse financial performance and provide insight into variances and trends.
- Assist in maintaining robust internal controls and ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Support with the budgeting process and monitor variances to identify areas for improvement and cost saving opportunities.
- Assist with the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely completion of audit requirements.
- Assist with tax requirements of the Business, liaising with specialist tax advisors, ensuring the timely completion of the necessary submissions, globally.
- Provide guidance and support to the wider finance team.
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasting.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial goals are aligned with overall business objectives.
- Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, and reporting efficiencies.
- Provide financial data and analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Assist in payroll processing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain and implement financial systems and procedures that improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports/data to the senior management team and board of directors, highlighting key financial insights and recommendations.
- Assist Financial Controller and Finance Director in delivering Finance Team objectives which feed into the overall business strategy.
- Handle day‑to‑day finance queries and transactional support as required.
- Championing ‘One Team MDL’ approach and acting as an MDL ambassador.
- Part‑qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ICAS) or eager to complete qualification (to be supported through training).
- Education in accounting, Finance, or a related field desired.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations and accounting principles, including IFRS and GAAP.
- Proficient in financial management software and advanced Microsoft skills including Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word & SharePoint.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Good communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all financial operations.
- Familiar/competent in Microsoft packages (Outlook, Projects, Excel, Word & Sharepoint).
- Able to multitask, work under high pressure and as part of a team.
- Able to work on own initiative and be self‑motivated.
- Willingness to learn & adapt.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with all levels of management, personnel, clients & other stakeholders.
