The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Deputy Management Accountant within the Management Accounting team, part of the Strategic Finance team in the Corporate Services Directorate. Strategic Finance is responsible for managing the medium-term financial plans of the Agency and ensuring that its c. £500m total budget is deployed efficiently and provides value for money.
As the Deputy Management Accountant, you will ensure the smooth running of month-end and year-end activities, along with ad hoc financial support, linking in with the Finance Business Partners to support them with their responsibilities.
Top Responsibilities
- Responsible for month-end and year-end processes and reporting, ensuring a smooth process in line with agreed timetables.
- Undertake all month-end activities, including identifying, preparing and posting journals, reviewing and identifying potential missing accruals and prepayments, pay models, sense checking forecasts and assisting stakeholders with explanations of variances.
- Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, maintaining good controls and checks to ensure accuracy.
- Analyse financial and non-financial data as required, to determine trends, correlations and other statistical information impacting business decisions, in line with the MCA’s Business Plan.
- Support Finance Business Partners in providing explanations for significant changes in budget, forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues, risks and opportunities to senior managers.

About You
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Relevant experience in managing accounting roles or other accounting roles with transferable skills.
- Intermediate Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Confident in working on your own initiative, as part of a team and with various stakeholders including non-finance staff, budget holders, Directors and senior managers.
