My client is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join their established engineering team. This is a technically challenging and highly collaborative position, ideal for someone who enjoys being closely involved in production, problem solving on the shop floor and contributing to continual improvements across materials, methods and structural design.
Key Responsibilities- Liaise with the shop floor and provide technical support on all yachts in build, including drawing clarification and guidance on potential in‑build modifications
- Produce 3D assembly models and production drawings for new structural components and designs using Siemens NX (full training provided)
- Design and develop tooling components with a focus on build accuracy and repeatability
- Review independent yacht surveys and support the creation of technical reports alongside the quality team
- Deliver full structural component design from concept through to calculation and final production drawings
- Support the design of material test samples, oversee testing where required and prepare clear, accurate test reports
- Work with first‑principle structural spreadsheets, classification society calculation tools and beam element programs (training provided)
- Maintain organised time management and meet required deadlines
- Attend production and project meetings to stay aligned with contract changes and production feedback
- Strong familiarity with polyester, vinylester and epoxy composite construction materials
- Knowledge of resin infusion methods is advantageous
- A genuine interest in sailing and passion for yacht design
- Understanding of yacht systems
- Product and supplier knowledge, with supplier management experience considered an advantage
- Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD
- Siemens NX
- Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Experience gained in either a marine consultancy or boatyard environment, with a clear orientation toward yacht production
- Training will be provided, including examples of drawing standards expected by the in‑build teams
- Degree qualified with 2 to 5 years of marine composite design experience
