Naval Architect / Engineer – Junior level Location: Portsmouth / Bristol Permanent – Full time c£30,000 – £45,000 depending on experience Are you looking to launch your career in naval architecture or marine engineering with a company at the forefront of the maritime industry? The Role As part of the Graduate and Early Careers programme, the successful candidate will contribute to a variety of projects from day one, gaining hands-on experience alongside senior staff. From concept design through to build support, the role offers exposure to a broad range of technical challenges, ensuring a well-rounded foundation for career progression. Responsibilities include: Undertaking calculations and providing advice on vessel performance (motions, stability, strength). Conducting stability and structural design calculations in line with Class requirements. Supporting projects with design reviews, data analysis, hydrodynamic studies, and ship performance simulations. Reviewing and approving technical plans and calculation packages from project teams and external consultants. Engaging with Classification Societies and Flag States to ensure compliance. Attending site visits, including deadweight surveys, inclining experiments, equipment tests, and yard capability reviews. Working across a range of vessels including ferries, high-speed craft, Ro-Ro ships, cargo carriers, and tankers. About You: Degree qualified (BEng, MEng, MSc or equivalent) in Naval Architecture, Ship Science, or a related discipline (minimum 2:1 or equivalent). Strong interest in naval architecture, ship design, or marine engineering. Positive, flexible approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MS Office applications, with experience in software such as AutoCAD and a basic understanding of FEA tools (e.g. Ansys). Competence with 2D/3D CAD and an aptitude for data analysis, visualisation, and software tool development. Solid engineering knowledge with an understanding of vessel structures. Awareness of Classification Society and Flag State rules (desirable). Why Apply?
