Are you an experienced Mechanical Design or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a change in scenery? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s rapidly growing marine engineering team. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives on technical challenges, enjoys guiding and mentoring others, and is motivated to contribute to innovation within the wider maritime and vessel‑design sectors.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality engineering design work across multiple projects. You’ll support colleagues across disciplines, provide technical oversight, and when required, coordinate a team of engineers and design engineers. You will also contribute to R&D initiatives and the continuous improvement of engineering processes and design methodologies.
Key Responsibilities- Produce engineering design calculations and technical documentation for assigned projects.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant classification society and national authority standards.
- Manage the quality, accuracy, and level of detail in project deliverables, ensuring all outputs are checked and released on time.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities to ensure smooth communication and timely resolution of technical queries.
- Manage your workload across multiple concurrent projects, working to agreed priorities and raising any resource conflicts with the Discipline Lead.
- Review project work to identify potential areas of technical risk and escalate appropriately to the Technical Project Manager.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in the marine or maritime engineering industry.
- Experience working on the design of medium‑sized vessels constructed in aluminium, ideally within workboats, superyachts, patrol vessels, or similar vessel types.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to apply sound engineering judgment to complex technical challenges.
- Confident producing clear, accurate, and professional technical drawings, plans, and reports.
- Self‑motivated with excellent planning and time‑management skills.
- Commercially aware, ensuring work is completed to the required standard, within agreed scope, and against project budget.
