As the Lead Composite Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for driving excellence in composite structural design across a diverse range of marine projects. You’ll guide a dedicated engineering team, oversee the full lifecycle of composite structures, and ensure robust, compliant, high‑quality engineering outputs that support both innovation and manufacturability.
- Set and maintain best‑practice methodologies, tools, and standards for composite structural engineering.
- Lead detailed structural calculations and analysis for various types of composite structures.
- Ensure all structural designs meet ISO and relevant classification standards.
- Apply FEA and optimisation techniques to improve performance, weight, fatigue life, and ease of manufacture.
- Support project development from concept and scantling definition through to detailed design, testing, and production release.
- Produce accurate engineering drawings for submission and fabrication.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support approvals and ensure project alignment.
- Provide technical support during manufacturing, responding to structural queries and ensuring build quality.
- Oversee composite build activities to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the composite engineering team, offering technical guidance and performance support.
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years’ experience within the marine industry specialising in composite structures.
- Strong proficiency in carbon and glass fibre laminate calculations and design.
- Experienced with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (advantageous).
- Skilled in FEA and laminate analysis tools.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
- Strong understanding of ISO and classification society standards relevant to composite marine structures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High levels of precision, problem‑solving capability, and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
