We are currently recruiting for a Field Service Engineer / Technician to join an established and highly regarded marine technology business specialising in advanced systems for the commercial, defence and luxury yacht sectors. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with customers and travelling to vessels both in the UK and internationally.
The Role
- Working as part of a specialist service team, you will be responsible for travelling to vessels to install, commission, service and repair complex marine systems.
- When not travelling, you will provide technical support from the company's UK office.
- The role will involve a combination of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control system troubleshooting, requiring a practical and analytical approach to fault finding.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional on-site installation, commissioning, servicing and repair support.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control system issues.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics and service documentation.
- Provide technical support to customers and colleagues when office-based.
- Complete service reports, timesheets and associated documentation accurately.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service and professionalism.
- Work independently while managing deadlines and priorities.
- Travel to customer vessels across the UK and internationally as required.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong practical engineering background and experience working with machinery or complex technical systems. Ideally, you will have:
- At least 2 years' experience assembling, servicing, commissioning or troubleshooting machinery or technical systems.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- The ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics and technical manuals.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- A hands-on, practical approach to engineering.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Good IT skills and the ability to complete service and parts documentation.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Full willingness and ability to undertake UK and international travel.
- Previous marine engineering experience is highly desirable.
An engineering qualification in electrical engineering, electronics or a related discipline would be advantageous, but relevant hands-on experience will also be considered.
