Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Near Abingdon
Salary: Β£30,000 - Β£35,000
Job Type: Permanent

A growing engineering business is looking for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join its product development team near Abingdon.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop their career within marine mechanical systems and product design. The ideal candidate will have an interest in systems design and mechanical component design such as hydraulics, Drivetrain and associated mechanical installations.

Working closely with the wider engineering and production teams, you will be involved in taking designs from initial concept through to prototype, testing and production.

The Role

You will be involved in:

  • Designing mechanical assemblies incorporating mechanical, electrical and moulded components
  • Supporting the development of new products and engineering projects
  • Producing 3D models, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation
  • Working with production teams to resolve design and build issues
  • Liaising with component and equipment suppliers on technical matters
  • Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Supporting prototype builds, testing and product development
  • Assisting with on-water testing and development activities
  • Contributing to design improvements and engineering problem-solving

About You

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and a genuine interest in mechanical design and marine engineering.

Systems design experience would be highly advantageous, particularly exposure to areas such as hydraulics, drivetrains or fluid systems.

You should have:

  • Experience using 3D CAD, ideally Siemens NX
  • A good understanding of mechanical components and assemblies
  • An ability to produce and interpret technical drawings
  • An understanding of mechanical systems and engineering principles
  • An interest in practical engineering and product development
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills
  • A willingness to work closely with production and other engineering disciplines

Experience with fabricated components in steel, aluminium or plastics, moulded/GRP components, fluid systems or electrical installations would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to gain broad, hands-on experience across mechanical design, systems design, prototyping, testing and production, working on products from initial concept through to manufacture.

For a graduate engineer looking to build a career in mechanical design, this provides an opportunity to develop strong practical engineering skills within an experienced product development team.
