Marie Curie, in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth, is delivering an innovative service to transform end-of-life care in Plymouth. This is a partnership focused on compassion, connection and meaningful moments for patients and their families.

Job Details

Role: Clinical Nurse Manager

Location: On-site, Derriford Hospital and Mount Gould Hospital (site-based role across both facilities)

Hours: 30 hours per week

Contract: 12 months fixed term (maternity cover). Secondments available.

Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (pro rata), in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC). Plus full Marie Curie benefits, including enhancements for out-of-hours working.

Location: University Hospitals Plymouth (on-site)

Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to a defined team within the Marie Curie Hospital Nursing Service. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality end-of-life care within an acute or inpatient setting, supporting patients and their families through complex end-of-life journeys.

You will oversee service development, workforce planning, and quality assurance within the hospital environment. This senior leadership position offers significant scope for professional development and influence.

You\’ll work closely with hospital leadership teams, specialist consultants, discharge coordinators, and other key stakeholders to shape inpatient services and identify opportunities for innovation and growth. We are seeking someone who is passionate about advancing hospital-based end-of-life care and committed to continuous improvement within a forward-thinking charity.

In this role, you\’ll be part of a supportive and values-driven team that truly invests in your development. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about their own career progression and ready to lead with compassion, clinical excellence, and purpose.

Qualifications

What we\’re looking for:

  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • Relevant Nursing Degree
  • Recent experience in health setting and management of nursing/clinical teams
  • Experience caring for patients with end-of-life care needs (hospice/hospital/community)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current end-of-life care issues
  • Able to plan, delegate, schedule and prioritise own workload and that of others, within a changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, e.g. negotiating, persuasion and coaching
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally make overnight stays
