Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist – Royal Free Hospital

Are you an experienced palliativecare nurse with a genuine passion for innovation and continuous improvement? AtMarie Curie, we are excited to invite a highly driven and enthusiasticindividual to join our new service at the Royal Free Hospital.

In this role, you will beresponsible for actively identifying patients in the Emergency Department whoare likely in their last year of life, providing specialist palliative care andfacilitating their prompt discharge to appropriate care providers, aligned withpatients preferred place of care.

Main duties of the job

Primary job responsibilitiesinclude:

  • Lead onclinical assessments and care planning
  • Provideadvanced symptom control and communication support
  • Coordinatewith community and hospital palliative care services to facilitate rapiddischarge home/preferred place of care
  • Supervise SeniorHealthcare Assistants, mentor emergency departments staff, and support teamlearning

Job responsibilities

You will also manage nursingservices for individuals with terminal illnesses, supporting their loved ones,and collaborating with health professionals. As a vital member of ourmultidisciplinary team, you will offer expert advice and support, managing acaseload of patients with complex needs while ensuring the highest standards ofcare.

This role exemplifiesperson-centred leadership, clinical excellence, and effective multidisciplinarycollaboration, all of which are crucial for Marie Curie to achieve itsstrategic goals. You will be expected to adhere to relevant legal, ethical,capability, and clinical frameworks, as well as Marie Curies policies andprocedures, taking accountability for your actions within the scope of yourrole.

Job Structure: Fixed term contract until early2027, with possible extension

Workdays: Starts Monday to Friday; includesweekends as the service grows

Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 7(AFC aligned) Β£47,810 to Β£54,710 Per Annum, Plus High-cost area Supplement

Location: Royal Free Hospital, London

What we are looking for

  • Nursingqualification with at least five years of post-registration experience,including at least one year of recent experience in palliative care orend-of-life care
  • Priorexperience managing complex discharges within an emergency department ispreferred but not required.
  • Proficient in observing and assessing clinicalpractice to evaluate standards of care
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage sideeffects and symptoms associated with medical conditions, and initiateappropriate treatment
  • Experienced in leading a team ofnurses/healthcare professionals

Person Specification

Experience

  • Demonstrated capacity to independently manage side effects and symptoms associated with medical conditions, as well as to initiate appropriate treatment modifications across diverse clinical settings.
  • Preferable experience within an emergency department setting.
  • Experience of quality assurance, audit and research

Qualifications

  • Appropriate nursing qualification with a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, including at least one year of recent palliative care/end-of-life care.
