Marie Curie seeks dedicated Healthcare Assistants for our overnight service across the Lothians. As part of a multidisciplinary team you will provide holistic support to patients and their families in the home during overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Access visit schedules and patient information via the electronic tablet system.
  • Contact patients and families prior to arrival to confirm the visit.
  • Attend patients’ homes and communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the out‑of‑hours clinical service.
  • Deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care, including pain and symptom management, pressure area care, monitoring and fluid intake support.
  • Accurately document all care and observations in the patient’s electronic records.
  • Work independently on a one‑to‑one basis within the patient’s home, ensuring safety, dignity and professionalism.
  • Provide overnight support to a single patient, offering companionship and monitoring for signs of deterioration.
  • Escalate any concerns or changes in condition to the out‑of‑hours service promptly.
  • Deliver sensitive and respectful care following a patient’s death, including personal care and body preparation.
  • Notify the out‑of‑hours service in the event of a patient passing during the night and complete all required documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months’ experience delivering care in a health or social care setting.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • NVQ Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to work toward this qualification.
  • A nurturing and compassionate approach with excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while being an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (aligned with AFC) ÂŁ24,647 – ÂŁ26,763 pro rata per annum + enhancements.
  • Contract: Permanent part‑time positions up to 27 hours.
  • Community based: Home‑based with travel up to 25 miles within the Lothians.
